Create Your Perfect Travel Amenity Kit for Restful Journeys

Travel can be an exhilarating adventure, but journeying to your destination may not always be as delightful. Sadly airline amenity kits where they’re provided, often fall short as far as quality is concerned. That's where a custom travel amenity kit comes in!

By creating your own travel amenity kit tailored to your needs, you can help ensure that your journey is as comfortable and hassle-free as possible. Particularly if your journey involves long haul flights.

In this post, we'll dive into the benefits of building your own custom travel amenity kit, with a special emphasis on comfort, sleep, REM sleep, and noise reduction. We'll also discuss how essentials like a quality travel pillow and blackout eye mask can transform your travel experience.

Ultimate Personalization and Comfort

A custom travel amenity kit allows you to handpick items that cater to your specific travel needs and preferences, maximising your comfort during travel.

Some benefits include:

  • Tailored to your needs: You choose items that address your unique travel concerns, such as comfort, allergies or sleep.

  • Individual style: Reflect your personality through the design and color of your travel pillow, blackout eye mask, and other items.

  • Quality control: Select high-quality products that you trust, ensuring your custom travel amenity kit lasts for many years to come.

Prioritising Sleep and Relaxation

Sleep and relaxation are crucial for maintaining your well-being during travel. A well-curated custom travel amenity kit can help promote better sleep and relaxation with the following essentials:

  • Travel pillow: A comfortable travel pillow provides essential support for your neck and head, preventing strain during long flights or road trips. Think about how you sleep (on your side or back), then choose from various types, such as memory foam, inflatable, or microbead, to find the perfect fit for your needs.

  • Blackout eye mask: A blackout eye mask can significantly improve your sleep quality on planes, trains, or buses by blocking out light. By promoting deeper sleep and more REM sleep cycles, blackout sleep masks are surprisingly more effective than standard masks in helping reduce jet lag and keep you feeling refreshed.

  • Active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones: Can be a game changer when travelling. ANC headphones effectively eliminate background noise, allowing you to relax and enjoy your favourite music, podcasts, or movies without distraction. They can also help create a peaceful environment, making it much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep during your journey. ”Over the Ear” ANC headphones are generally more popular as they blockout more sound than “On Ear” types and are more comfortable than “In Ear” headphones for long journeys.

Enhanced Hygiene and Well-being

Maintaining good hygiene during travel is essential for your overall well-being. The last thing you need would be to fall ill at the start of your vacation!

A custom travel amenity kit can help you stay healthy and clean with key items like:

  • Hand sanitizer: An indispensable tool for killing germs and keeping your hands clean, especially when soap and water are unavailable.

  • Disinfectant wipes: Use these to sanitize surfaces around your seat, tray tables and armrests to minimise the risk of illness.

  • Facial tissues: Pack tissues for sneezes, spills, and other unexpected situations.

  • Dental Kit: To keep your teeth and breath fresh.

  • Moisturiser: Available from many skincare brands, to help prevent dry skin. Facial mists are also effective.

Stress Reduction and Mental Wellness

A well-prepared custom travel amenity kit can alleviate stress and enhance mental wellness during your journey. Consider incorporating these items:

  • Aromatherapy: Bring along a small bottle of your favorite essential oil or a travel-sized aromatherapy rollerball to help you relax and unwind.

  • Snacks: Packing your favorite non-perishable snacks can provide comfort and a taste of home during your trip.

  • Entertainment: Remember to download your favorite movies, shows, or audiobooks to keep yourself entertained and mentally engaged during long layovers or delays.

Cost Savings and Sustainability

Crafting your own custom travel amenity kit not only benefits you, but also the environment. By choosing reusable items and reducing single-use plastics, you can significantly lessen your environmental impact and enjoy cost savings in the long run.

Consider these eco-friendly and cost-effective options:

  • Reusable cutlery: Bring your own lightweight, reusable cutlery set to avoid using disposable plastic utensils, reducing waste.

  • Water bottle: Carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and minimize plastic waste. Opt for an insulated bottle to maintain your drink's temperature, whether hot or cold.

  • Travel-size containers: Fill reusable containers with your favorite toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, instead of purchasing single-use travel-sized bottles.

Emergency Preparedness and Peace of Mind

A well-stocked custom travel amenity kit can also serve as an emergency kit, offering you peace of mind during your journey. Be prepared with these items:

  • First-aid kit: Pack a small first-aid kit with essentials like band-aids, pain relievers, and any necessary prescription medications. I usually carry enough for three days in case of unexpected airport stays.

  • Backup power source: Carry a portable power bank to keep your devices charged, especially during long trips or in emergency situations.

Constructing your own custom travel amenity kit not only provides unmatched personalization and comfort but also emphasizes sleep, relaxation, and well-being.

By including essentials like a travel pillow, blackout eye mask, and active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones, you'll create a kit that revolutionizes your travel experience.

I have flown business class, premium economy class and economy class with many airlines including: EVA Air, British Airways, Thai Airways, Etihad Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Qatar Airways. None of which offer an airline amenity kit that comes close to the comfort levels I get from my own custom travel amenity kit.

So, why wait? Begin curating your perfect custom travel amenity kit today it can be sitting in your bag ready for you to embark on a smoother, more enjoyable journey!

How to Setup Your iPhone for Stress Free Travel

Traveling is a wonderful experience, but it can also be stressful, especially if you’re not organised. One of the things that can make a huge difference is having all your travel documents instantly accessible from one secure place that’s always with you, such as your smartphone.

In this blog post, I will show you the best way to setup your iPhone (can also apply to Android devices) to help make your travels stress free!

Hand holding a smartphone with a travellers home screen setup and a thai beach background with text saying all your travel information secure and always with you

Different Types of Travel Information

There’s a host of information we need access to when travelling both electronic and hard copy. Sometimes you maybe asked for this information at unexpected moments.

Passport

The most important document of all, to verify your identity and show relevant visas. This document is often required for flight check-in, passport control, immigration and hotel check-in, car / motorbike rentals etc. Also useful for unexpected Police checks.
Format: Hard Copy.

Drivers licence

Typically used for  car / motorbike rentals it can also be required for any Police stops. Your driving licence may also need to be accompanied by an International Driving Permit subject to your own driving licence / destination county.
Format: Hard Copy

Flight Itinerary

To help you keep track of your flight schedules, yet some immigration points may ask to see proof of when you are intending to return home.
Location: Booking Website / Email / Apps (copy often printed on paper).

Boarding Passes

You're proof that you were sat in a specific seat in an aircraft, Either electronic or paper, the small paper boarding pass tabs can easily be mislaid.
Format: Hard Copy

Hotel Bookings

It’s common for travellers to stay at multiple hotels. Keep track of all those different booking numbers and room types can be a challenge!
Location: Booking Websites / Email / Apps (copy often printed on paper).

Travel Insurance

Equally as important as your passport. Within moments of receiving medical treatment, a hospital administrator will be asking for your travel insurance information or how you intend to pay.
Format: Insurance Website / Email (copy often printed on paper).

Health History / Medications

Often overlooked, but in the event of receiving medical treatment, timely health history information such as prior treatments, current medications etc. can be key to ensuring you receive the right treatment.
Format: Electronic (copy often printed on paper).

Credit / Bank Card Information

Account numbers, expiry dates, providers, emergency contact numbers are key in the event your cards or information are either lost or stolen.
Format: Electronic.

The above is a lot of information in many different formats which can be a challenge to get instant access to.

Risks of Paper Travel Documents

While paper travel documents have been the standard for many years, there are significant risks which can make travel stressful and inconvenient.

Any information printed on paper can be easily readable by anyone. Accidentally losing your travel paperwork or having your bag containing your paperwork stolen, will likely cause a great deal of inconvenience and stress. Likely to putting a temporary halt to your travel plans.

Some documents which have to remain on paper such as your passport, drivers licence or international driving permit, require additional care. This can also sometimes be a challenge when you maybe suffering from jet lag.

There are many good reasons to consider going digital when it comes to travel documents. By using digital travel documents, your information is protected, you save time, reduce environmental impact, and stay organised while enjoying a stress free trip.

Benefits of Storing Travel Documents in your Smartphone

Convenience

One of the main benefits of storing your travel documents on your iPhone is convenience. You’ll have all your travel documents in one place, making it easy to access them whenever you need to.

No more digging through your bag or wallet to find your important travel documents. With just a few taps on your iPhone, you can access everything you need for your trip.

Security

Another benefit of storing your travel documents on your iPhone is security. Losing your passport or other important documents can be a nightmare when you’re traveling.

By storing copies on your iPhone, they can be securely encrypted keeping them safe. Password or biometric protection on your iPhone will prevent unauthorised access.

Sharing

A single copy of your itinerary could be instantly shared with family, who will automatically receive updates whenever your itinerary changes.

Time-Saving

Storing your travel documents on your iPhone can also save you time giving you almost instant access. You can also use your iPhone to check flight schedules, track your flight, and even book a rental car or hotel room.

Offline Access

When traveling to remote locations or areas with poor internet connectivity, accessing online travel documents such as flight tickets or hotel reservations may be difficult or impossible. With iPhone's ability to store documents offline, it eliminates the need for internet connectivity when accessing important travel documents, which ensures that your travel plans don't get disrupted.

Environmental Benefits

Storing your travel documents on your iPhone also has environmental benefits. By reducing the amount of paper you need to print out, you’re helping to reduce paper waste. Additionally, the less paper you carry, the lighter your load!

Organization

Travel can be chaotic, with many documents and reservations to keep track of. By storing your travel documents on your iPhone, you can keep everything organised in one place, accessible from anywhere.

Backup

In the unfortunate event that you lose your iPhone, having your travel documents stored in the cloud or other secure backup service can be a lifesaver. You can simply access your documents from a new device, or other device such as a friend’s or family member’s iPhone, and continue your travels without much hassle.

After many years of travelling I created a custom “Travel” home screen on my iPhone which keeps all my travel information (apps, notes, insurance and digital copies) just one or two taps away.

Both iPhone and Android devices have the ability to create custom home screens out of the box, with no additional cost.

Simplify Life with this Top Rated Sling Bag!

I had no idea about the usefulness of sling bags, until I purchased my first sling bag and have wondered how I ever managed without one!

What is a Sling Bag and how is it different from other bags?

A sling bag is a popular type of shoulder bag that is designed to be worn across the body. Sling bags typically feature one long adjustable strap for wearing diagonally across the body enabling the sling bag to be easily moved between your back and your chest, and often includes several pockets or compartments for storing small items.

Unlike handbags, satchels and other types of bags, sling bags are designed to be worn on the body and can move with the user as they go about their day. This makes them ideal for carrying small items like cell phones, wallets, keys, and other necessities while keeping hands free.

Sling bags are also often considered a great way to accessorise an outfit while providing convenience and comfort at the same time.

What is this “Top Rated Sling Bag”?

After hours of online research I decided upon the tomtoc 4.5 litre / 8 inch Explorer Sling Bag. This tomtoc sling bag has been my everyday carry crossbody bag since day one.
