New e-scooters designed by American company Link have been approved for use in Britain.

These scooters automatically turn off when they enter prohibited areas such as footpaths and shopping centers, thanks to mapping data downloaded directly onto the scooter, which eliminates the need for GPS.

This technology allows the scooters to deactivate within a second, compared to the 30 seconds taken by current e-scooters in the UK.

Link is bidding to rent out their scooters in London and other areas, including Portsmouth, Southampton, and the Isle of Wight.

The company claims the shutdown is controlled and alerts drivers to the fault while ensuring the scooters do not shut down unsafely.

“The American-designed e-scooters use sensors to cut power when entering prohibited zones such as footpaths and shopping centres.

They are disabled within a second of leaving a road, cycle lane or private land where the devices are legally allowed.”
