Successful E-Scooter Trial: No Twisted Metal or Bodies in Sight

The police in Avon & Somerset have praised the e-scooter trial by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), after initial concerns of "twisted metal and bodies scattered all over the highway".

The pilot scheme, launched in Bristol and Bath in October 2020, introduced 100 rental e-scooters in central Bristol and 50 in central Bath, which have been ridden over 50,000 and 12,500 times respectively.

Richard McKiernan, the Avon & Somerset force lead for the WECA experiment, said the trial had been a "policing non-event", while the WECA's Tim Bowles said e-scooters were part of the region's "longer-term actions to bring different options into play for people".

Instead it has been a “policing non-event” and he has been “massively reassured” by the trial, which metro mayor Tim Bowles says will become vital in how we move around the region for generations to come.”
